Nearly a week has passed since a silver alert for Margie Pickens, an 84-year-old woman who might be showing signs of dementia, was issued. Authorities now say a tip given on the evening of June 15 has been proven false, according to Duncan Police Department.

Sgt. Layle Baker said a report of a sighting of Pickens at the Lawton-Duncan Y came in but he viewed the video several times and was unable to find Pickens on any video surveillance.

“Right now, I don’t have any tips coming in and I don’t have anywhere to go other than the fact that she is missing and we don’t know where she is at,” Baker said. “There was one lady who called and asked if it was against the law, I said no ma’am if you’ve got a picture and you want to go post it and walk door to door that is fine.”

Police said a family member filed the report and according to information provided to Duncan Police, Pickens hasn’t been seen since on or around June 12.

Pickens is described as a height of 5 foot 4 inches and around 100 pounds, according to information released by the department. No clothing description is available at this time.

Community members began the process of searching for Pickens and agencies from around Oklahoma have been notified via the silver alert circulated by agencies across America.

Sgt. Baker said they are still accepting tips and will investigate any tip as they have been doing. He said he hopes for a good resolution.

“The sad side of it is I feel empathy and remorse for the family but I can’t do anymore than what I am doing because I don’t have anywhere to look,” Baker said. “I have asked if there was anywhere she would go, or any other family or any ex-husband, kids, children, grandchildren. Everywhere I ask or try to go to it is either ‘no’ or ‘I don’t know.’ It is a needle in a haystack and we are just waiting for that needle to pop out.”

If there are any reports of Pickens’ whereabouts, citizens are encouraged to contact Baker at 580-255-2112.
