The 2022 Crandon World Championships Labor Day Weekend is here and Off Road Xtreme has compiled a comprehensive event preview with everything you need to know. Besides hosting the biggest off-road short course race of the year, Crandon International Raceway and Championship Off-Road have brought back the chaotic Class 11 VW bugs and the iron-crunching mayhem of Ultra 4 rock racing!

This year is going to be a record breaker with on-track racing action! For the 53rd Polaris Crandon World Championships, the official schedule features 44 races over the weekend and 71 on-track appearances (including practice and qualifying) for all classes. That is a huge serving of high-octane live-action motorsports entertainment of the highest competition caliber!

Race officials are expecting a huge crowd of 65,000 spectators coming to witness an exciting field of over 480 competitors racing in 18 divisions across the Champ Off-Road series Pro and Sportsmen classes, Ultra4, and Class 11 divisions. The traditional “Crandon Experience” better than ever with spectating opportunities at the newly remodeled Crandon Clubhouse, the Lucas Oil Barn, a Vision Wheel hospitality complex, and the main Crandon grandstand. We heard Camp Crandon was sold out awhile ago, so its best to be careful out in the wilds of “Jurassic Park”, or not!

The Labor Day Weekend event marks the beginning of Fall and the end of the short course off-road season. The Crandon World Championships is the final stop for the AMSOIL Championship Off-Road Series. All of the regular season Sportsmen and Pro racers will be duking it out to claim the points titles. But Crandon always draws in other contenders thirsty for that sweet Wisconsin milk and World Cup glory. If you are a fan, Championship Off-Road has created an online survey poll for both the Pro and Sportsmen classes. This allows anyone to pick their class winners.

Keep in mind, that this weekend is not all about points racing. The Red Bull World Cup races are stand-alone events that hold major prestige. And there is also the super exciting Pro 4 verses Pro 2 race to cap off the event.

This year, Tanner Foust, fresh off some recent Crandon test sessions, is coming back to throw it down in Pro 2 under the Carlson Motorsports tent. You can count on him being more than competitive come next Saturday. Ronnie and RJ Anderson are proven winners at Crandon and will be holding it down in the Pro 2 and Pro 4 ranks. Crandon World Champion, Christopher Polvoorde owns a terrific record at this event and will be charging hard in Pro Lite.

In Ultra 4, 2021 Crandon Champion Loren Healy, alongside his Fun Haver teammate Vaughn Gittin Jr., will be headlining that division. Other Ultra 4 notables confirmed for Crandon include Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Famers Shannon Campbell and Brad Lovell.

CJ Greaves leads Kyle LeDuc in the Pro 4 division. With RJ Anderson, Johnny Greaves, Andrew Carlson, Adrian Cenni, and Cole Mamer also on deck, anything can happen.

In Pro 2, Jerett Brooks and Cory Winner are in close contention with only 2 points separating them for the championship lead. There is a lot of talent in the class and we could see a shake-up. Wild cards thrown in and points racers thrown out, Doug Mittag, Ryan Beat, Keegan Kincaid, and Ronnie Anderson just might have a say.

Pro Lite is always a blast and action-packed. Kyle Greaves and Brock Heger have had a stellar and consistent year. Only 1 point differentiates 1st and 2nd place, and they have Trey Gibbs on their heels 2 points off. Christopher Polvoorde always comes to Crandon with a fast program and is looking to make another impactful finish for his record books.

I love a good buggy race and follow the Championship Off-Road series Super Buggy division closely. Michael Meister is the defending champion and is holding the points lead over Mark Steinhardt. The class is loaded with winners like Mike Kirkham, Michael Hester, and a blast from the past Larry Job.

With the Second Annual Continental Tire Class 11 VW World Championship, you can expect approximately 20 vintage Volkswagens to make multiple track appearances on the legendary Crandon short course. Starting with an open practice session on Thursday, September 1st, the stock “Class 11” Volkswagens will then compete as a feature race on September 2nd as part of the Polaris Crandon World Championship’s “Forest County Potawatomi Friday Night Thunder.” The weekend’s big race for the Continental Cup and Crandon World Championship rings will take place on Sunday, September 4th as part of the 7th annual Red Bull Crandon World Cup.

That is just tipping the scale with a few mentions of the top pro classes, and some VW love, but not even touching on the UTV divisions. There will be so many awesome races from both the Pro and Sportsmen division you better bring your sunscreen, and also an umbrella, because, well, it’s Crandon!

The best way to experience the 2022 Crandon World Championships is in person. Start here if you do not have your tickets already. If you cannot make it to The Big House, then take advantage of the Live Stream Coverage.
