DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The fire we reported on Friday evening that led to the evacuation of Abbey South nursing home on Homewood Blvd. in Delray Beach was brought under control quickly.

Delray Beach Fire Rescue says it was electrical, starting in an elevator mechanical room.

“The building’s fire sprinklers helped get it under control quickly,” said fire officials. ”The fire was contained to the mechanical room and there were no injuries.”

The fire was first reported around 5 p.m. and led to the evacuation of the large facility’s first floor — sending a large number of nursing and rehabilitation patients into the intense afternoon heat.
